For money

I want to work with you. I guess it’d help if you knew what I did. I’ll be honest, I do a lot of things.

First and foremost, I’m a freelance writer and social media consultant. If you would like to learn more about my services or may be interested in hiring me for a project or some consulting work, please direct your attention to my professional website: www.nicolerelyea.com. (Please forgive the appearance, it’s under construction.) You can also read my column about wedding planning on Examiner.com.

I’m also a licensed massage therapist. I graduated from massage school in 2005 and have been doing it “on the side” of my other work ever since. Sometimes this has meant working nights and weekends at a spa, once it meant I went on a bicycle tour and worked on the cyclists, and right now I work out of my home. While I am in the process of creating a massage space in my house, I am offering out-calls in the Denver area. You can find more information about my massage therapy practice and the services I offer here: www.harmonyhealthandhealing.com

Did I mention that I love to sing? I’m a classically trained vocalist and have been singing for 15 years. I love to sing for weddings, commitment ceremonies, holiday parties, and other special events. Here are some samples of my performances:

“The Prayer” at the wedding of Scot & Kacey Kronenfeld, May 2008

“Fixing A Hole” by The Beatles. Covered by my band, Bok Choi!, and played on 105.5 MMM radio in Madison, WI June 2007.

Some background on how I got here, my philosophy, and why I do what I do:

I blog a lot about entrepreneurship and being self-employed. To be honest, I decided I wasn’t going to fit in the corporate world when I was about 8. I remember reading a sign on the side of the road that said “be your own bo$$!!” and had a 1-800 number, and announcing to my mother that I would be my own boss someday. This suspicion was confirmed when I had my first internship in college, working for one of the best, most innovative, creative, exciting companies in the region. I hated it. I knew if that I couldn’t work in that office and be happy, I probably couldn’t work in any office and be happy.

But I kept trying.

As a result, I’ve had about 27 jobs in the six years since I graduated from college, more if you count all of the one-time gigs. No, I’m not even kind of kidding. I’ve been a martial arts instructor, a cooking school assistant, a director of communications, a glorified secretary, a barista, a hostess, a swing dance instructor, and a massage therapist for a cycling tour, to name a few.

I’ve always had a lot of interests, it’s part of being an ENFP. When I was little I wanted to be a ballerina-archaeologist-author-astronaut-writer-rockstar-princess. And not in different phases – I wanted to be those things all at once. But most “regular” jobs only let you be one thing at a time.

I still do a ton of things, at the moment I’m a writer-social media consultant-musician-massage therapist-promotional model. Okay, that last bit I’m really more of a food demonstrator. But promotional model sounds better. Point being, self-employment allows me to do all of the different things that I want to at once. Sometimes that’s stressful. It’s definitely a lot to keep track of. And yes, some of my jobs are working for other people, but always on a contract basis.

Point being, I’d love to work with you. Whether you need someone to ghost write your blog, or you want to buy a massage for your best friend for her birthday, you need help planning a party or someone to sing at your wedding, I’m happy to help. You can reach me a:
