For Fun
Posted on 10/28/2010 04:16 pm by NicoleWhen people meet, the first question they usually ask is “so, what do you do?” I do a lot of things. Some for money. Others for fun. Since I made a page dedicated to my income-producing activities, I decided to make a page dedicated to the “for fun” ones. Because they’re just as important.
My number one, favoritest thing in the whole world is music. I love to sing. I play the guitar. I once tried to teach myself the cello. Soon I will hopefully be picking up the piano. I’ve been a member of the Madison Children’s Choir (now Madison Youth Choirs), the Concert Choir at the University of Minnesota, The Philharmonic Chorus of Madison, the Isthmus Vocal Ensemble, and the Colorado Choir.
For a couple of years I had a cover band called Bok Choi!, and we had our cover of “Fixing A Hole” by the Beatles played on the radio.
I’ve sung at several friends’ weddings, doing everything from “The Prayer” to “Such Great Heights” (the Iron and Wine version,) and the Gounod Ave Maria to “For Good” from Wicked. I love singing at weddings and special events, so if you have one coming up that you need music for, please keep me in mind.
I also have a dream of starting up a jazz group. If you’d like to help me start a jazz trio or quartet, let me know.
My second favorite thing in the whole world is entertaining. I love planning and throwing parties. I love meeting people. I love groups. So in 2005 I started the Odd Tuesday Potlucks. Here’s a post about how they started. And here’s the official Odd Tuesday Potluck website.
I’m a physically active person; I ski, play ultimate frisbee, go swing dancing, and love riding my bike. But there’s not much to post online about these things, other than to say that I write some ridiculous cheers for ultimate.
And then there are the more sedentary hobbies. This blog is, obviously, one of them. I enjoy cooking, and I can knit a mean scarf. And I’m sure I’m forgetting something. But we’ll leave it at that for now.
